Kano, June 14, 2024 — The Federal High Court in Kano has issued a significant judgment in favor of His Royal Highness, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the Emir of Kano, against several top officials and security agencies. The case, overseen by Hon. Justice S. A. Amobeda, addressed the enforcement of the Emir's fundamental rights following an originating motion filed on May 27, 2024.

The Federal High Court in Kano ruled in favor of Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, affirming his fundamental rights against high-ranking officials and security agencies, including the Attorney General of the Federation, the Attorney General of Kano State, and various branches of the Nigerian security forces. The ruling, delivered by Justice S. A. Amobeda, highlighted the judiciary's role in safeguarding individual rights and setting a precedent for protection against potential abuses by security agencies.

The judgment, delivered by Hon. Justice S. A. Amobeda on June 14, 2024, addresses an originating motion filed by the Emir on May 27, 2024, seeking the enforcement of his fundamental rights.

Prominent legal representatives from both sides were present during the proceedings. The Emir’s legal team was led by Mamman Lawan Yusuf Fari, SAN, and included several other distinguished lawyers. Representing the respondents were Ismaila Bala, Esq., Assistant Chief State Counsel for the Federal Ministry of Justice, among others.

In his judgment, Justice Amobeda emphasized the necessity of upholding the fundamental rights of individuals, regardless of their status or the allegations against them. This ruling is expected to establish a significant precedent in protecting fundamental rights against potential abuses by security agencies.
